“अन्नदानं परं दानं विद्या दानं मतः परम् ।
अन्नेन क्षणिका तृप्ति र्यावज्जीवं च विद्यया॥”

Meaning: Offering food to the needy is very noble. But giving the gift of education is the highest. Food gives momentary satisfaction to the recipient, while the satisfaction of becoming learned remains with the learner throughout the lifetime.

SSRVM Dharavi

SSRVM Dharavi

Dharavi – a mesh of narrow lanes, hawkers, tiny homes and many small-scale industries, commonly referred to as Asia’s largest slum. In the midst of all this, is located Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir (SSRVM) – a temple of knowledge, where the students are not only provided with education, but are inspired to dream and accomplish it! SSRVM is a result of many volunteers working day in and out for the betterment of the society.

Currenly, 421 children attend the english-medium school. Teachers say that they are amazing learners, volunteers say they are great fun to be with. Given the opportunity, they too can experience an incredible India and participate in the exercise of nation building.

The school is not only a center of learning, it is a place where students can leave behind domestic violence, crime, child labor and the constant lack of opportunity. Teachers place special emphasis on hygiene, health, and individual responsibility, and also run a vocational training center.

Apart from schooling and school facilities, we also provide:

  • Textbooks, notebooks, and stationery
  • School uniforms
  • School transport
  • Mid-day meals
  • Salaries for teachers and staff
  • Regular medical checkup facilities for the students

At the SSRVM Dharavi school we are committed for the betterment of these students and for the world at large – at the same time improving the quality of life of the people and society. Your contribution can transform our students at Dharavi from dependents to driving forces. You too can contribute!

SSRVM Chikmagalur

SSRVM Chikmagalur

Chikmagalur is a hill station in Karnataka, a state in southwest India. Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir, Chikamagalur is situated in a small village by the name Marle in the midst of Chikamagalur district.

Marle is a village with 100% agricultural workers, labourers and farmers, often referred to as “Anna Daatas” – the givers of food. This village has smaller amount of population with limited facilities such as inadequate public transportation, improper roads, no hospital facility, no proper drinking water, no schools.

The school itself lacks many basic amenities that may be considered essential or minimum requirements in other parts of the world. Interestingly, it has been running for over 40 years. Here, the students are poor and underpriviledged kids coming from nearby villages in a radius of 8-10 kms. Most of the children are the first generation of kids to pursue education in their family!

Currently around 208 children are studying here.

Even though they are from such a challenging background, teachers say that the students’ ability to learn and grasp things is quick and at par with other school children in the cities. They possess many creative skills in them. All they need is the right direction which can be provided by a good education system to kindle these qualities within them. Given the opportunity, they too can experience value based education by providing them with basic necessities and facilities to transform them from dependents to driving forces.

You too can contribute!

Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar believes that just information is not education. It is culturing our behavior and attitude. It is our ability to perceive things better. The purpose of education is to increase awareness.

“Only an education that can nourish inbuilt virtues can impart true intelligence.” With these thoughts in mind, Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir Trust was founded in the year 1999 by Gurudev as the educational wing of The Art of Living, to promote holistic education in a stress-free and child-friendly environment.

So far, SSRVM Trust has established about 98 educational institutions ranging from Pre-primary to Post Graduate studies in diverse fields – Management, Computer Studies, Ayurveda medicine etc. Our mission is to have schools in each district of India where learning is inspirational and fun and a sense of belongingness is created .Also, to establish institutes of higher education in each state of India, which shall become centers of excellence in knowledge and research across various fields of study where each student achieves the highest level of professional and personal ability so as to serve the needs of local, national and global economies.
